Privacy Policy

In short

• Your files are never uploaded. Videos, images and PDFs are compressed inside your browser, on your device. We never receive them.
• We don't require an account and don't run analytics that track you.
• We process a little personal data to run the website (hosting logs), to answer messages you send us, and, on pages with ads, through our advertising partner Google, subject to your consent where the law requires it.

Who is responsible for your data

VideosCompressor (www.videoscompressor.net) is operated by GAVA COMPRESSOR, an individual based in Morocco, who is the controller of the personal data described in this policy.

Files you compress

All compression happens locally in your web browser. Your files are not uploaded to us or to any third party, and we cannot see, store or analyse them. Compressed files exist only in your browser's memory until you download them or close the page. By default, the compressors also remove metadata such as location data from the files they produce.

Data we process

1. When you visit the website

Our hosting provider, Hostinger, automatically records technical information when your browser requests a page, such as your IP address, the date and time, the page requested, your browser type and the referring page. These server logs are used to deliver the website, keep it secure and diagnose problems. They are kept only as long as needed for those purposes, in line with the hosting provider's retention periods.

Legal basis: our legitimate interest in operating a secure and reliable website (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).

2. When you contact us

If you use the contact form or email us, we process your name, email address, the topic and your message to reply and handle your request. To protect the form from abuse, a cryptographically hashed version of your IP address is kept for one hour to limit the number of messages; we cannot recover your IP address from it.

We keep correspondence for up to 12 months after your request is resolved, unless a longer period is required by law or to establish or defend legal claims.

Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering enquiries, or taking steps at your request (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b) and (f)).

3. Preferences stored in your browser

If you choose a light or dark theme, the choice is saved in your browser's local storage (vc-theme). It never leaves your device, and you can clear it at any time in your browser settings.

4. Advertising (Google AdSense)

To keep the compressors free, some pages show ads provided by Google AdSense. Pages such as the guides, this policy, the terms and the contact page never show ads.

On pages with ads:

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites on the internet.
• You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info or, in Europe, youronlinechoices.eu.
• Learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Consent: visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are asked for consent through Google's certified consent message before personalised advertising cookies are used. Visitors in US states with privacy laws are offered a choice to opt out of the use of their data for targeted advertising. You can change your choices at any time with the Privacy and cookie settings link at the bottom of every page.

Legal basis: your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)) where required; otherwise our legitimate interest in funding a free service.

5. Analytics

We currently use no analytics or tracking tools. If this changes, we will update this policy and, where required, ask for your consent.

Who receives data

• Hostinger (hosting and email) processes data on our behalf to run the website and our mailbox.
• Google processes data as described above on pages with ads.

We do not sell personal data. We don't share it with anyone else unless the law requires it.

International transfers

Our service providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where data from the EEA, the UK or Switzerland is transferred to countries without an adequacy decision, the providers rely on safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have the following rights. To exercise them, contact us at contact@videoscompressor.net. We'll respond within the time required by law, usually within one month.

European Economic Area, United Kingdom and Switzerland (GDPR / UK GDPR) You can request access to your data, correction, deletion, restriction of processing, data portability, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. Where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw it at any time. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

United States (including California under the CCPA/CPRA) You can request to know what personal information we have collected about you, and to have it corrected or deleted. You can opt out of the "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising using the Privacy and cookie settings link. We don't sell personal information, and we won't discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

Morocco (Law No. 09-08) You have the right to be informed, and the rights of access, rectification and objection regarding your personal data. You can also contact the Moroccan data protection authority, the CNDP (Commission Nationale de contrôle de la protection des Données à caractère Personnel), at cndp.ma.

Children

VideosCompressor is not directed at children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.

Security

The website is served over HTTPS with modern security headers. Because your files are processed on your own device, they're never exposed to our servers. No system is completely secure, but we limit the data we hold to what's described here.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when our practices or the law change. The date at the top shows the latest version. Significant changes will be highlighted on this page.
