How the 8 MB target works
The compressor calculates a bitrate from your video's length: 8 MB × 8,192 ÷ duration in seconds, minus the audio, minus a small safety margin. A 30-second clip gets about 2,000 kilobits per second; a 2-minute clip gets about 450.
It then checks how many pixels that bitrate can keep sharp. If the full resolution would look blocky, it steps down (1080p, 720p, 480p, 360p) until the picture holds up. You get the cleanest video that genuinely fits.

Frequently asked questions
Will my video be exactly 8 MB?
It will be just under 8 MB, usually between 7.5 and 8 MB. The compressor aims slightly below the target so the file never goes over, even after small variations in encoding.
How long can an 8 MB video be?
Up to about 30 seconds looks sharp at 720p. A one-minute clip fits at around 480p. Beyond two minutes, the picture becomes soft, so trimming is the best way to keep quality.
What does "8 MB" mean here?
We use the same megabytes that apps and operating systems show: 1 MB = 1,048,576 bytes. A file the compressor makes "under 8 MB" will show as under 8 MB in your file manager and in upload forms.
Why is 8 MB such a common limit?
For years, 8 MB was the free upload limit on Discord, and many bots, forums, chat servers and older upload forms copied it. Discord's own limit has since changed; see our Discord preset for today's value.
Can I keep the sound?
Yes. Audio is kept by default and its bitrate is lowered a little on very small targets so the video gets enough data. You can also remove it in the advanced settings to give the picture more room.
